Aussie Casino Scam

Five jailed over casino scam

Five Chinese nationals have been jailed for defrauding a Gold Coast casino of more than $750,000.

A sixth man has been acquitted.

The prosecutor likened the case against the four men and woman to a Hollywood movie plot, saying they invested a lot of planning and financing into the scheme to defraud Jupiter’s Casino.

The group had conspired to steal a legitimate playing card from the casino in May last year and used it the next day to manipulate games of mini-baccarrat in the high rollers room.

In just over 50 minutes, they had netted more than $765,000.

The court heard the casino recovered most of the money, except for $115,000 which the woman had been ordered to repay.

The four men have been sentenced to four years’ jail and will be deported once they are released on parole.

The woman, who has Australian residency, received a three year sentence.
